Brain, Mind and Healing

Brain, Mind and Healing

The Brain, Mind and Healing research program investigates the neurobiological and psychological mechanisms through which mental processes, consciousness, and intentional practices influence physical health and healing outcomes. This multidisciplinary program bridges neuroscience, psychology, and clinical medicine.

Research areas include the neuroscience of meditation and contemplative practices, placebo and nocebo effects, the role of belief and expectation in healing, biofield phenomena, and the neural mechanisms underlying mind-body interventions. These investigations generate evidence about how mental activity translates into physical health changes.

Key findings from the program demonstrate that mental practices including meditation, guided imagery, and intentional relaxation produce measurable changes in brain structure and function, immune system activity, stress hormone levels, and gene expression, providing scientific mechanisms for mind-body healing effects.

The Brain, Mind and Healing program represents a core component of the Samu Eli Institute’s mission to understand and harness the full spectrum of human healing capacities through rigorous scientific investigation.
